Backtracking

I'm not sure why, but I wanted to blog again. No promises on the future, but it's nice for now.

Dave's dad celebrated 70 years this year! (Well, last year.) The poor man's birthday is December 25, and as such he usually doesn't get much attention. This year Rebecca (Dave's little sis) had a great idea to throw him a surprise party early, so he'd never expect it, and give him some well-deserved birthday acknowlegment! She came up from Flagstaff and spearheaded the whole Hawaiian event ;)

Miley was the queen of the leis!

Rebecca transformed the whole place into a Hawaiian paradise!

Party. Animal.

The cake, courtesy of Costco (thank you for not making me do the cake! I love you Costco!) He cried when he saw it ... but I think he thought I made it at first ... whoops

Everyone was hiding, waiting for Grandpa to get home.

... and waiting ....

We got Aunt Jen to call him on the phone so we could find out where he was and be ready. We kept getting reports of "On my way" and other such evasive nonsense.

Aren't they precious!

FINALLY! Home! And so surprised!

Miley taking a bite from the fake apples. Dave's parents have a full set of all the kids' dental imprints contained in these apples. They are a family rite of passage into toddlerhood.

This picture reeks of good sport.

One of the best parts was the gifts. Everyone went together to get him a GPS, but it didn't arrive in time for the party, so we improvised. Around their bedroom we found numerous gifts given to them by their children over the years that were still in boxes. So we re-wrapped those, and he had no clue. He was THRILLED with this digital picture frame ... that he got last year at Christmas. See Chris and Jonathan busting up in the back?

Hey ... he does this at my house too!

Miley and those leis. Seriously funny.

  1. Yay! I'm so glad you're back! Even if it is only for a couple of posts. The picture of Dave's dad when he first walked in is perfect. And I love that 1. He still had presents in the box in his room. 2. You wrapped them and re-gifted. and 3. He loved them just as much the second time as the first. Hey, maybe you won't ever have to buy him a present again. Such a fun idea, and so thoughtful!
