Sick-o

I've been so happy with the healthy winter our family has been having. The only change I've really made is I started using doTerra essential oils, so they must be helping. Hurrah!

However, I guess you can't beat 'em all. Starting Wednesday, I was headed out to a bookclub when Caden started wailing that his ear was hurting. Uh oh. I rubbed some oil on him and gave him some homeopathics and probiotics, then said "Good luck Dave" and went to bookclub :) Next day he spent all day on the couch with an extremely owie ear.

Friday Dave stayed home from work with Caden and Koen so I could go teach at our home school co-op. Then we went to Costco to do some shopping - I figured Caden would be on the mend and could take it, and we needed to get it done. Caden lounged on the flatbed cart looking downright miserable. Koen was coughing so hard that he threw up. Three times. One time right into my hands. Wow, good times. We got home and Caden once again crashed in our chair and didn't move for the rest of the day. And Saturday. And Sunday. Yikes! He won't even let me touch the outer ear, it's so painful. I feel for the kid. As chance would have it, this is the weekend Dad has to go out of town for work. Of course. He takes off about 5 pm Friday evening.

Koen is hacking up a lung and can't breath right, so he spent most of the night with me in my bed on Friday. On Sat. morning Caden told me at 4:30 am that the oil was leaking out of his ear. Except I hadn't put any oil in his ear that night. So he was having some drainage, which I hoped would lessen the pressure and help him feel better. It was disgusting, that's all I'm going to say. Anyway, now Caden and Koen were both in my bed and I was not going to be getting much sleep at all. Lovely.

Saturday night I gave ALL the kids cough medicine with codeine so I could get some sleep. It worked.

Caden's moving around today, which is so nice. His ear feels better. I even had the distinct pleasure of finally cleaning it out since he can stand to have it touched a little. That was a joy, I tell you. Koen's still got a runny nose but is much better. Caden is still coughing (which sometimes makes him gag and throw up, so that's fun) but we are on the mend.

And I am REALLY looking forward to getting out of the house! Who wants to go for a girls' weekend? I think I deserve it.

And so do you if you made it though this post without getting ill yourself.
