Learning Log Week 20

Caden: In piano I'm learning Fur Elise around a B theme. In math I'm studying squares and the number 4. In language arts we finished the Jack Prelutsky book. The last grammar word I studied was "verbum" which means word in Latin. I'm reading a new history book called 1776 by David McClintock. For tech I've downloaded a lot of Kano games and think it's really fun. My favorite is probably Civ Simulator. I also do typing and DuoLingo on the computer each week.

Tessa: In math I'm still doing long division with up to 5 digits. I like to type stories and the spellcheck helps me learn to spell stuff. In my writing class we talked about characters and settings and motives. I'm reading Little House in the Big Woods and finished the whole In Grandma's Attic series and the Princess and the Goblin, and I'm almost done Naya Nuki. In history we've started to talk about the Westward expansion. I am having a problem in tech class where the quiz doesn't match anything I did so I need to contact my teacher about that. I have almost memorized all of Thunder on the Plains by Jennifer Linn - just 3 measures left! I will be performing it at my piano recital.

Davin: In math I'm doing adding and subtracting with regrouping, and I got to use a fun Montessori manipulative called the Stamp set and we also got it as an app on the iPad so I like to do it in the car. I read Eerie Elementary book 3 and got a whole stack of new books for my birthday. I did my poetry study and finished the Jack Prelutsky book so we probably have to start another poet. For science I'm taking an airplane class at my co-op where we are learning about how they were invented, and I also do a nature journaling class. I did some snap circuits and my little bits kit with my friends on my birthday and it was fun to do in a group. In piano I'm learning Star Wars and can play all the songs in my book so I'm waiting for the rest of the class to catch up. I'm getting better at reading music.

Koen: I take a fun airplanes class and art class at our co-op. Also learning how to build machines in my Simple Machines class. I read Bad Kitty and flat stanley and go to a fairy tales class where we read and act out fairy tales. I am working on my handwriting and do a reading lesson every day. For math I'm doing adding equations and I have a math class at co-op that is fun. We talked about sound waves and make a pan flute out of straws. We also do Bedtime Math game every night. I switched to a younger piano class and we are having a lot of fun because my teacher plays lots of games where we put finger numbers on a sign, and we write quarter notes and rests and things on white boards.
